Bio
When I was little, I wanted to be a writer.
Later, I wanted to be a scientist.
I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to be both.
I received a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California. I received my doctorate in Molecular Cell Biology from Washington University in St. Louis and went on to do postdoctoral research in cell and cancer biology.
In 2013, I left the laboratory bench to focus on writing. Sometimes I write about real science for physician and scientist readers. Sometimes I write “hard” science fiction about cyborgs and the end of the world. And sometimes I spin fairy tales about selkies and dragons and children on the moon.
I live in western Michigan with my husband and two children.
Whimsical bio: INTP on the Myers-Briggs test, cats over dogs, savory over sweet, a bag of chips over chocolate.
